Family Portrait Photography

Family portrait photography is where I got my start as a professional photographer. As a mum of three, I was naturally drawn to family portrait photography. Luckily my brood are very willing models which is probably why it’s become an area of specialism.

For me, family portrait photography is about capturing what it is that’s special about you as a family. It’s about finding an environment where you can feel relaxed and genuinely enjoy the experience. Then my job becomes easy.

As you know, kids don’t do sitting still very well. That’s why I like to give them the freedom to run around and let off steam. Living where we do, we’re surrounded by gorgeous Chiltern countryside – the perfect setting for taking beautiful, natural images. We go on woodland walks, we run about in fields and sometimes we head for more unusual places like industrial estates that offer really interesting backdrops.

How to make good portrait photography great.

Sometimes when clients are booking a shoot, when a really keen amateur photographer books up they often ask if…

During every shoot my priority is to give the kids time to suss me out and warm to me. Time to understand there’s nothing to worry about and that, actually, this is going to be pretty good fun. Once the kids are happy, by default you the parents are happy too.

For every family portrait photography shoot, I advise you to bring wellies, make sure the kids are wrapped up warm if it’s cold, and to feel free to bring a change of clothes or coats if you’d like a bit of variety in the pictures.

A full shoot can take about two hours. It’s laidback, it’s informal, but mostly it’s lots of fun. For more information on booking a family portrait photography shoot, please give us a call on 01494 680811 or complete our contact form.
